Pronounced like hokey pokey
Ingredients:
- Ahi tuna
- Avocado cut into bite-sized pieces
- Mango (frozen or fresh)
- Pineapple (frozen or fresh)
- Edamame (defrosted)
- Baked Yam (You can follow my yam fries recipe except cut them into cubes and cook them for less time)
- Tofu (optional)
- Pickled ginger
- Sesame seeds (I used the black ones for more of a dramatic look, but you could also use the regular ones)
- Pickled onions (follow my recipe!)
- Rice
- Spicy teriyaki sauce
Tips & Notes:
- For the base, I did say rice, but it can be anything. Either it’s white rice, brown rice, salad, cauliflower rice, or a mix of all of those!
- In this particular recipe, I decided not to give exact amounts, because that’s not really what this recipe is about. You’re supposed to adjust and play around with things. If you like, you could try and replicate what my bowl looked like, just to get an idea.
- Trying to buy ahi tuna can be a bit annoying, but I’ll give you some options that worked for me. Thrifty Foods is great because they literally have it ALL ready. Chopped into nice perfect cubes, along with any kind of sauce that you are craving. Save on Foods is pretty good also, but the only difference is that they only sell it in one piece. So you have to chop and sauce it up yourself. Either one works, but I tend to lean a bit more toward Whole Foods.
- In this bowl, I have put in three things that you can’t necessarily just pick out of your fridge. That would be the pickled onions, yam fries chunks, and pickled ginger. For the pickled onions, you can follow along with the recipe that’s on my blog, same with the yam fries chunks. The pickled ginger, I just bought in the sushi section in a grocery store.
Directions:
- After you have found all the ingredients, start to assemble!
- Get a bowl that you want to eat out of
- Put your base in first
- Put all your toppings on! I like to put them all in a row (like the image shown) just to make it look prettier but it doesn’t really matter.
- Start eating!!!
- (You should be gone now. Wow. You’re not supposed to read this! GO!)
